A tranquil courtyard of a small private animal sanctuary in Spain’s Orba/Jalon valley, with whitewashed stone walls, terracotta pots overflowing with bougainvillea, and a rustic wooden gate left slightly open. In the center, a rescued ginger cat dozes on a weathered stone step beside a calm, elderly black-and-white dog lying on a woven straw mat. Soft, diffused late-morning sunlight filters through grapevine leaves above, dappling their fur with gentle patterns. Photographic realism, captured from a slightly elevated angle using the rule of thirds, with crisp details in the foreground and a subtly blurred background that hints at green hills beyond, conveying warmth, safety, and quiet contentment.

Our Story

We started by accident and incident. There are animal shelters where mainly dogs and also cats are brought to, when found wounded or lost on the highway, by gentle people. But these shelters are temporarely, and only for animals who are in a good enough condition to be adopted by new owners. But then there are those who are too sick; they are obsolete and cannot stay in the standard shelter. So first a sweet podenko dog, Queenie, came to our Sanctuary. To stay and when time comes, to die in peace. Then a pig was brought in; no place for her, she was pregnant. And soon indeed seven little piggies appeared. The mother pig is still living with us, with two little ones. The others are successfully placed with good caring people. And so it went on …

Our Sanctuary Story

AnimalNirvana began with rescued companions and a promise to provide safe, loving care in the sunlit hills of Costa Blanca, where every animal finds a second chance.

A small group of rescued animals gathered peacefully in a sunlit Spanish countryside paddock, featuring a gentle chestnut donkey, a speckled white-and-brown goat, a golden mixed-breed dog, and a few relaxed tabby cats lounging in the grass. They rest beneath the shade of an old olive tree, with rolling green hills of the Costa Blanca and distant white-washed village houses in soft focus. Warm late-afternoon golden hour light bathes their fur, creating soft highlights and long, gentle shadows. Photographic realism, eye-level composition with a shallow depth of field keeps the animals in sharp focus while the background fades into creamy bokeh, evoking a serene, safe, and loving sanctuary atmosphere.
