A small group of rescued animals gathered peacefully in a sunlit Spanish countryside paddock, featuring a gentle chestnut donkey, a speckled white-and-brown goat, a golden mixed-breed dog, and a few relaxed tabby cats lounging in the grass. They rest beneath the shade of an old olive tree, with rolling green hills of the Costa Blanca and distant white-washed village houses in soft focus. Warm late-afternoon golden hour light bathes their fur, creating soft highlights and long, gentle shadows. Photographic realism, eye-level composition with a shallow depth of field keeps the animals in sharp focus while the background fades into creamy bokeh, evoking a serene, safe, and loving sanctuary atmosphere.

Our residents

Every week one of our resident animals is featured here.

Kiki the donkey has a little friend: the very white 6 months old Goatie. Kiki was very lonely, for years on a chain in a dry field. Until we could take him to Animal Nirvana.

A close-up, intimate portrait of an elderly sanctuary dog with grey muzzle and kind amber eyes, lying on a soft, handwoven blanket atop a rustic tiled terrace. The fur is slightly unkempt yet clean, showing fine individual hairs and subtle color variations. Behind, several potted herbs and geraniums sit on a low wall, out of focus. Late afternoon Costa Blanca sunlight streams in from the side, creating warm rim lighting around the dog’s head and casting a gentle shadow across the tiles. Photographic realism, extremely shallow depth of field that blurs the background into soft color patches, focusing on the dog’s expressive gaze and conveying a mood of gratitude, safety, and quiet companionship.

Bruno had a nice home, until his human died. No one came for Bruno, so he stayed in the house where he had lived for years. No one took care of Bruno, who was sad and grieving, without any food. Until after almost a year some good soul noticed him and brought him to AnimalNirvana Bruno is well again and happy to still be alive.

This is Lady, a very elegant ant gentle podenko. She has got a pink nose, she is very soft and careful in approaching people. She was abandoned by hunters who have used her as a tool for chasing prey in the woods. She was found hungry and desperate for shelter wondering on the roads near the small town. She was found by a good soul who brought her to AnimalNirvana. She will never be without shelter, though she is a champion in finding holes in the fence for wondering a bit but she will always return to her safe haven.

the brave ones: Pablo on the left, Bruno the biggest, Chief frightend but curious and Gigi, always a bit behind. These are the ones that bark all together very loud when a visitor is coming. They bark but don’t bite – anymore. Because each of them has it s own food bowl waiting.

Our rescue pledge

Every dog, cat, pig, goat and even chicken has its own difficult life story. In AnimalNirvana they stay safe for life.

A cozy stable interior converted into a sanctuary retreat, with clean straw bedding, neatly stacked hay bales, and sturdy wooden beams showing the texture of aged pine. In the foreground, a rescued grey donkey with soulful dark eyes nuzzles a small, frail-looking white goat wearing a soft, pastel-colored fleece coat that suggests medical care. Soft, warm overhead barn lighting combined with cool daylight seeping through an open side door creates a balanced, comforting glow, highlighting the animals’ fur textures and gentle interaction. Photographic realism, shot at eye level with a shallow depth of field, emphasizing the emotional connection and care, while stable details recede softly into the background, reinforcing a mood of protection and healing.
